Malaysian shipping company MISC Berhad has placed an order for up to four new LNG carriers with China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, expanding its growing fleet.
In a move to bolster its liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping capabilities, Malaysian energy logistics company MISC Berhad has returned to China's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding for the construction of up to four new LNG carriers.
According to a report from Seatrade Maritime, the new order builds on MISC's existing partnership with the Chinese shipyard. The company's LNG carrier orderbook now stands at up to 10 vessels, underscoring its commitment to the growing global LNG trade.
'This latest order from MISC reaffirms our long-standing partnership and their confidence in our capabilities to deliver high-quality LNG carriers,' said a spokesperson for Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding.
The new LNG carriers will join MISC's diverse fleet, which includes a range of vessel types serving the energy, offshore, and industrial sectors. As one of the world's largest owners and operators of LNG carriers, MISC plays a key role in facilitating the global movement of liquefied natural gas.
'Expanding our LNG carrier fleet is a strategic priority for MISC as we seek to capitalize on the projected growth in LNG trade volumes,' said the company in a statement. 'Our partnership with Hudong-Zhonghua has been instrumental in enabling us to build a modern, efficient fleet to meet the evolving needs of our customers.'
The financial details of the new contract were not disclosed, but industry analysts estimate the value to be in the range of $190 million based on current newbuild pricing for this vessel type.
