Nanjing Tanker Expands Chemical Tanker Fleet
By MGN Editorial•March 4, 2026 at 09:35 PM
Chinese shipping company Nanjing Tanker orders three new chemical tankers, continuing its fleet expansion.
Nanjing Tanker, a subsidiary of China Merchants Group, has placed an order for three new chemical tankers at a domestic shipyard, according to a filing with the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
The 13,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers will be built by an unnamed Chinese shipyard. This latest order adds to Nanjing Tanker's growing fleet as the company continues to invest in its chemical shipping capabilities.
'The new vessels will help Nanjing Tanker meet rising demand for chemical transportation services, particularly within the Chinese domestic market,' said the company's spokesperson. 'As a major player in China's coastal chemical shipping segment, these additions strengthen our position and ability to serve our customers.'
The order comes as the global chemical shipping sector experiences a period of steady growth, driven by increased industrial activity and trade flows of petrochemicals and specialty chemicals. Analysts note that Chinese firms like Nanjing Tanker are well-positioned to capitalize on this trend due to their proximity to some of the world's largest chemical production hubs.
'Nanjing Tanker has been quite active in fleet renewal and expansion over the past year,' commented a shipping analyst at gCaptain. 'This latest order demonstrates their commitment to maintaining a modern, efficient fleet to serve the evolving needs of China's chemical industry.'
