Navier Secures $100M Deal to Deploy 100 Electric Hydrofoil Vessels Across the Maldives

Electric hydrofoil startup Navier has partnered with JIH Global Investment in a $100 million agreement to build out a sustainable inter-island transport network across the Maldives, deploying a standardised fleet of 100 software-driven vessels.

## Navier and JIH Global Investment to Build Electric Hydrofoil Network in the Maldives Electric vessel manufacturer Navier has announced a landmark $100 million partnership with JIH Global Investment to deploy 100 electric hydrofoil boats across the Maldives, marking one of the largest single commitments to zero-emission maritime transport in the Asia-Pacific region. According to a PR Newswire release, the agreement will establish what the companies are calling the 'Navier Network' — a standardised fleet of software-driven electric hydrofoil vessels designed to connect airports, resorts, private villas, and local island communities throughout the Maldivian archipelago and potentially beyond its borders. ### A New Model for Island Connectivity The Maldives, comprising more than 1,000 coral islands spread across roughly 90,000 square kilometres of the Indian Ocean, has long relied on conventional speedboats and seaplanes for inter-island transport — both carbon-intensive and operationally costly options. The Navier Network aims to replace a significant portion of that capacity with vessels that are described as 'cleaner, quieter, and more scalable.' Hydrofoil technology lifts the vessel hull clear of the water at speed, dramatically reducing drag and energy consumption compared with conventional planing hulls. Combined with electric propulsion, the approach offers a compelling efficiency case for short-to-medium range island-hopping routes. The software-driven nature of the fleet is also notable. Navier has positioned its vessels as platform products — capable of remote monitoring, performance optimisation, and over-the-air updates — bringing a technology-first operating model to a sector that has traditionally been slow to digitise. ### Market Significance The deal represents a significant vote of confidence in the commercial viability of electric hydrofoils for premium tourism and local transport markets. The Maldives receives more than 1.5 million tourists annually, with high-end resort operators under increasing pressure from guests and investors to demonstrate environmental credentials. For the broader maritime industry, the Navier-JIH agreement signals growing appetite among private capital for large-scale zero-emission vessel deployments, particularly in island and coastal ferry markets where route distances are well-suited to current battery technology. Navier has not disclosed a specific delivery timeline for the full 100-vessel fleet, but the scale of the investment suggests a multi-year rollout programme. The company is expected to provide further operational details as the network build-out progresses.
