New Insights on Pay Equity in Türkiye's Fashion Manufacturing Sector

By MGN EditorialFebruary 12, 2026 at 02:28 PM

Global Fashion Agenda publishes a new report examining gender pay disparities in a major European fashion sourcing hub.

Global Fashion Agenda (GFA), a leading industry organization, has published a new insights paper titled 'Unpacking Pay Equity in Fashion: Türkiye'. The report examines the drivers of gender pay gaps in Türkiye's fashion manufacturing sector, one of Europe's most important sourcing hubs. The paper, launched during a closed-door industry event, provides an in-depth look at the factors contributing to pay inequity in this critical part of the global supply chain. 'Türkiye is a powerhouse in fashion manufacturing, but our research shows there are still significant disparities in how men and women are compensated for their work,' said GFA's Director of Research, Sara Mahmoud. The insights paper draws on data from worker interviews, factory audits, and policy analysis to unpack the complex web of cultural, economic, and structural issues driving the gender pay gap. Key findings include the prevalence of occupational segregation, lack of pay transparency, and entrenched biases around the value of 'women's work' in the sector. 'This is an important wake-up call for an industry that has made commitments to gender equity,' said Mahmoud. 'Türkiye's fashion brands and manufacturers need to take concrete steps to address these disparities and ensure fair compensation for all their workers, regardless of gender.' The full 'Unpacking Pay Equity in Fashion: Türkiye' report is available for download on the GFA website. The organization plans to publish similar insights papers examining pay equity challenges in other major fashion sourcing markets in the coming year.
