New Zealand Selects Worley as Technical Advisor for LNG Import Terminal

By MGN EditorialFebruary 18, 2026 at 09:31 PM

Australia's Worley has been chosen by New Zealand's government to provide technical advisory services for a new LNG import terminal project.

In a move to bolster its energy security, the New Zealand government has selected Australian engineering firm Worley to serve as the technical advisor for the country's planned LNG import terminal. According to an announcement from Offshore Energy, New Zealand's Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has awarded Worley the advisory role for the LNG import facility project. The terminal is intended to help address the country's natural gas supply challenges and diversify its energy mix. 'Worley will provide technical advisory services to support the development of the LNG import terminal project, including technical and commercial assessments, engineering design, and regulatory approvals,' the company said in a statement. The LNG import terminal is a key part of New Zealand's strategy to transition away from reliance on domestic natural gas production, which has been in decline in recent years. Importing LNG will allow the country to supplement its energy needs and support its shift towards a lower-carbon future. As the technical advisor, Worley will play a crucial role in ensuring the feasibility, design, and implementation of the new LNG infrastructure. The company's expertise in the energy sector and experience with similar projects worldwide will be invaluable in guiding New Zealand through this important energy transition.
