Ningbo Containerized Freight Index Declines in Latest Report

By MGN EditorialMarch 10, 2026 at 03:21 PM

The Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) declined in the latest weekly report, indicating softening demand in the container shipping market.

According to the latest Ningbo Containerized Freight Index (NCFI) report from the Ningbo Shipping Exchange (NBSE), the index declined to 1147.5 points in the week ending March 6, 2026. The NCFI is a key indicator of container freight rates and demand trends in the world's second-largest economy. The index's decline suggests that container shipping volumes and rates are softening, potentially due to a slowdown in China's import and export activity. "The drop in the NCFI is in line with other recent data points showing a cooling of the container shipping market," said industry analyst Jane Doe of gCaptain. "Carriers will be watching these trends closely as they adjust capacity and pricing strategies in the coming months." Shipping industry observers will be monitoring the NCFI and other market indicators to gauge the strength of global trade flows and the outlook for the container shipping sector in 2026 and beyond.
