Noble Corporation Secures Jackup Drilling Contract Offshore Norway with ORLEN
By MGN Editorial•August 18, 2026 at 12:00 PM
Noble Corporation has been awarded a one-well jackup drilling contract offshore Norway, with ORLEN's Norwegian subsidiary hiring the ultra-harsh environment rig Noble Intrepid for an exploration campaign.
## Noble Corporation Lands Norwegian Exploration Drilling Contract
Offshore drilling contractor Noble Corporation has secured a new contract award in the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS), with the company's ultra-harsh environment jackup rig Noble Intrepid selected to drill an exploration well for the Norwegian arm of Polish energy group ORLEN, according to Splash247.
The 2014-built Noble Intrepid has been specifically designed to operate in the demanding conditions characteristic of Norwegian waters, making it well-suited for the harsh environment requirements that North Sea exploration campaigns demand. The one-well contract is expected to commence in the near term, adding to Noble's active backlog in one of the world's most technically rigorous offshore drilling markets.
### Strategic Significance for Noble
The award underscores continued operator appetite for exploration drilling on the NCS, a basin that has remained relatively resilient compared to other global offshore markets. Norway's stable regulatory environment, combined with the Norwegian government's ongoing support for petroleum exploration, continues to attract investment from international energy companies, including ORLEN, which has been expanding its upstream footprint beyond its Central European base.
For Noble Corporation, the contract represents a further strengthening of its position in the premium jackup segment. Ultra-harsh environment jackups command higher day rates than standard units due to their engineering specifications and the limited number of rigs capable of operating in such conditions, making contract wins in this category particularly valuable to the company's revenue profile.
### ORLEN's Norwegian Upstream Activity
ORLEN, the Polish state-controlled energy major, has been actively developing its international upstream portfolio in recent years. Its Norwegian subsidiary's decision to commission an exploration well signals continued confidence in the prospectivity of the NCS and aligns with broader European energy security priorities that have encouraged sustained investment in domestic hydrocarbon production.
The NCS remains one of the most active jackup markets in Europe, supported by a favourable fiscal regime and a mature but still productive basin that continues to yield exploration success.
