Offshore Drilling and Charging Pilot Projects Advance in Brazil and Europe

By MGN EditorialMarch 24, 2026 at 04:05 PM

Equinor kicks off drilling at a major Brazilian gas project, while a consortium launches an offshore charging pilot in Europe.

In the latest developments from the global offshore energy sector, Norway's Equinor has commenced drilling activities at its $9 billion natural gas project off the coast of Brazil, utilizing a drillship operated by offshore drilling contractor Valaris. According to *Offshore Energy*, Equinor's project is a significant undertaking that aims to develop the Carcará North area in the prolific pre-salt region of the Santos Basin. The drilling campaign marks an important milestone as Equinor works to bring this major gas resource onstream. Elsewhere in the offshore space, a consortium comprising Stillstrom, Faber Group, and Prysmian has launched a pilot project to develop an offshore charging solution, as reported by *Offshore Energy*. The initiative aims to advance the electrification of offshore operations and support the industry's decarbonization efforts. "This pilot project represents an important step forward in enabling offshore vessels and platforms to access clean, renewable power," said Stillstrom's CEO. "By working with partners like Faber Group and Prysmian, we hope to demonstrate the viability of offshore charging and accelerate its adoption across the maritime sector." These developments underscore the offshore industry's continued investments in new technologies and projects to drive greater efficiency, sustainability, and energy security - key priorities for operators and service providers alike as the energy transition gains momentum.
