Offshore Energy Briefing: Ocean Installer Lands TotalEnergies Decommissioning Contract as Namibia Farm-Out Nears Completion
By MGN Editorial•June 25, 2026 at 11:22 AM
Norway's Ocean Installer secures a 1,000-tonne subsea infrastructure recovery contract for TotalEnergies, while Tower Resources edges closer to finalising its Namibia offshore license farm-out deal.
## Offshore Energy Briefing: Decommissioning Award and African Upstream Progress
### Ocean Installer Wins TotalEnergies Subsea Recovery Contract
Norway-based marine construction and operations specialist Ocean Installer, a member of the Moreld Group, has been awarded a contract to recover approximately 1,000 tonnes of subsea infrastructure on behalf of energy major TotalEnergies, according to Offshore Energy.
While full project details remain limited, the scope underscores the growing demand for specialist decommissioning and infrastructure recovery services across the North Sea and broader offshore sector. As ageing subsea assets reach end-of-life, operators are increasingly engaging dedicated marine contractors to manage the complex and logistically demanding process of removing and disposing of subsea equipment in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Ocean Installer has established a strong track record in subsea construction and intervention work, and this latest award reinforces the company's expanding footprint in the decommissioning segment — one of the offshore industry's fastest-growing service areas.
### Namibia License Farm-Out Approaches Finish Line
In upstream developments off the African coast, Tower Resources — the AIM-listed oil and gas company with a strategic focus on Africa — has moved significantly closer to completing a farm-out agreement for its offshore Namibia license, Offshore Energy reports.
The deal is now subject to ministerial approval, suggesting the transaction is in its final administrative stages. Farm-out agreements allow smaller exploration companies to bring in partners, typically larger operators or investors, to share the financial burden and technical expertise required for offshore exploration programmes.
Namibia has attracted considerable international attention in recent years following a series of significant offshore discoveries, making license activity in the country a closely watched indicator of broader West African upstream momentum. A successful conclusion to Tower Resources' farm-out could provide the company with the financial backing needed to advance exploration on the block.
