Ocean Network Express has secured a significant long-term operational foothold on the US West Coast after the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a 30-year lease extension with Yusen Terminals.
## ONE Locks In Long-Term West Coast Presence with Port of LA Lease Extension
Ocean Network Express (ONE) has strengthened its strategic position on the US West Coast after the Los Angeles Board of Harbor Commissioners approved a 30-year lease extension with Yusen Terminals, according to Seatrade Maritime.
The approval represents a major long-term commitment to one of North America's busiest and most strategically critical container gateways. The Port of Los Angeles consistently ranks as the top container port in the United States, handling tens of millions of twenty-foot equivalent units annually and serving as a primary entry point for trans-Pacific trade flows.
Yusen Terminals, which operates under the ONE umbrella, has been a longstanding presence at the Port of Los Angeles. The 30-year lease extension signals ONE's confidence in the continued importance of the San Pedro Bay complex as a cornerstone of its North American network, particularly as carriers navigate ongoing shifts in global trade patterns, supply chain realignment, and evolving US trade policy.
For the Port of Los Angeles, securing a multi-decade commitment from a major carrier alliance partner provides operational and financial stability, underpinning future infrastructure investment planning at the terminal.
The deal also carries broader significance for the trans-Pacific trade lane. ONE, formed from the merger of the container shipping divisions of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha, is a key member of THE Alliance and one of the world's largest container carriers. A 30-year lease horizon effectively anchors a significant volume of Asia-US West Coast cargo through the Port of Los Angeles for decades to come.
The approval by the Harbor Commissioners reflects the port authority's ongoing strategy to secure long-term carrier partnerships as competition between West Coast and East Coast ports for trans-Pacific volumes remains intense.
