PJM Wholesale Electricity Markets Remain Competitive

By MGN EditorialMarch 12, 2026 at 07:09 PM

A new report finds PJM's wholesale electric energy market produced competitive results in 2025, indicating a well-functioning power grid in the region.

According to a new report from Monitoring Analytics, LLC, the wholesale electric energy market operated by PJM Interconnection remained competitive throughout 2025. PJM is a regional transmission organization (RTO) that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The annual 'State of the Market' report analyzes the competitiveness and efficiency of PJM's wholesale power markets. The latest report found that PJM's markets 'produced competitive results' in 2025, indicating the grid operator is effectively managing supply, demand, and pricing to ensure a reliable and cost-effective electricity system for the region. 'The results of the detailed market analysis included in the annual State of the Market Report provide an objective evaluation of the performance of PJM's wholesale electric energy market,' said Monitoring Analytics CEO Joseph Bowring. 'The analysis shows that the PJM markets continue to be workably competitive and provide customers significant benefits.' The findings are positive news for the maritime industry, which relies on stable, affordable electricity to power port operations, shipbuilding, and other critical maritime activities across the PJM footprint. Maintaining competitive wholesale power markets is an important factor in ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of the sector.
