The Port of Long Beach has debuted a new children's book aimed at inspiring young readers to become environmental stewards of the port and its surrounding ecosystem.

In a move to engage the next generation of maritime stakeholders, the Port of Long Beach has launched a new children's book titled 'Soleil the Sea Lion Explores the Green Port'. The book, written by the port's media relations manager Art Marroquin and illustrated by Michelle Dinh, follows the adventures of a curious sea lion as she discovers the port's environmental initiatives. Coinciding with Read Across America Week, the book's debut is part of the port's broader efforts to educate young people about the importance of sustainability in the maritime industry. 'Soleil the Sea Lion' is designed to inspire children to become active participants in protecting the coastal environment and preserving the health of the port's ecosystem. 'As the second-busiest container port in the United States, the Port of Long Beach plays a critical role in the global supply chain,' said port Executive Director Mario Cordero. 'This children's book is a fun and engaging way to teach the next generation about the port's commitment to being a leader in environmental stewardship.' The book's launch comes at a time when ports around the world are increasingly focused on reducing their environmental impact and transitioning towards more sustainable operations. By targeting young readers, the Port of Long Beach hopes to cultivate a new generation of 'green port' advocates who will carry on the mission of protecting the marine environment.
