Potomac Edison completes new substation to improve electric service for 2,400 customers in Berkeley County, West Virginia.
Potomac Edison, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp., has completed construction of a new substation in Berkeley County, West Virginia that is already delivering more reliable power to 2,400 local customers.
According to a press release from Potomac Edison, the new facility 'helps reduce outages and support growth' for the area. The substation is part of the company's ongoing efforts to modernize its grid infrastructure and enhance service reliability for industrial, commercial and residential customers.
'This new substation is a key investment that will provide our Berkeley County customers with more reliable electric service,' said James A. Sears, Jr., president of Potomac Edison. 'The improved power reliability supports continued economic growth and development in the region.'
The announcement comes as maritime companies and port operators across the U.S. are increasingly focused on securing resilient power supplies to support their 24/7 operations. Disruptions to the electrical grid can have cascading impacts on cargo flows, vessel movements and other critical maritime activities.
Potomac Edison, which serves over 500,000 customers across West Virginia and western Maryland, says the new substation was built to 'the latest engineering and design standards' to enhance its overall system performance and flexibility.
