Norway's Reach Subsea has been awarded a contract to perform an external inspection of Gassco's subsea pipelines using a fully certified Reach Remote uncrewed surface vessel (USV).
Norway's Reach Subsea has been awarded a contract to perform an external inspection of Gassco's subsea pipelines using a fully certified Reach Remote uncrewed surface vessel (USV), according to an announcement from Offshore Energy.
The Reach Remote USV is a remotely operated vehicle capable of conducting a range of offshore and subsea tasks without the need for a crewed vessel. Reach Subsea says the USV has been fully certified to operate in the North Sea, allowing it to safely and efficiently inspect Gassco's critical subsea infrastructure.
"We are very pleased to have been awarded this contract by Gassco. It demonstrates the trust our clients have in our Reach Remote USV and our ability to deliver safe and efficient inspection services," said Jostein Alendal, CEO of Reach Subsea.
The contract with Gassco, Norway's natural gas transmission system operator, highlights the growing adoption of uncrewed and autonomous technologies in the offshore energy sector. USVs offer significant advantages over traditional crewed vessels, including improved safety, reduced emissions, and lower operational costs.
"Uncrewed and autonomous technologies are becoming increasingly important in the maritime industry, especially for tasks like subsea pipeline inspections that can be performed safely and efficiently without the need for human crews on board," said Richard Sanchez, a senior analyst at gCaptain. "Companies like Reach Subsea that can deliver certified, proven solutions are well-positioned to capitalize on this trend."
The Reach Remote USV is equipped with a range of sensors and inspection equipment, allowing it to gather high-quality data on the condition of Gassco's subsea infrastructure. This information will help the company plan maintenance and repair activities, ensuring the continued safe and reliable operation of its natural gas transmission network.
