Renewable Diesel Proves Reliable in New York's Extreme Winter

By MGN EditorialFebruary 20, 2026 at 02:00 PM

Approved Oil Company reports successful performance of renewable diesel during one of the coldest winters in over six decades in New York City.

In a testament to the resilience of renewable fuels, Approved Oil Company of Brooklyn, Inc. has reported the successful performance of renewable diesel (RD) supplied to New York City agencies throughout an exceptionally severe winter period. According to the company's press release, the past winter was 'one of the most severe' the region has experienced in more than 65 years, with prolonged sub-freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall. However, the renewable diesel provided by Approved Oil maintained reliable operation and performance, even in these extreme conditions. 'We are proud to have supported New York City's critical operations with our renewable diesel product during this challenging winter,' said Approved Oil's CEO, John Smith. 'The performance of RD has demonstrated its viability as a sustainable alternative to traditional fossil fuels, even in the face of the harshest winter weather.' The use of renewable diesel has been growing in the maritime and transportation sectors as organizations seek to reduce their environmental footprint. Unlike biodiesel, renewable diesel is chemically identical to petroleum-based diesel, allowing for a 'drop-in' replacement without modifications to existing infrastructure or equipment. 'This is an important validation of renewable diesel's capabilities,' commented gCaptain editor, Michael Wilson. 'As the maritime industry continues to explore decarbonization pathways, real-world examples like this will help build confidence in alternative fuel solutions.' The successful deployment of renewable diesel in New York City's operations during the extreme winter underscores its potential to serve as a reliable, sustainable fuel source for a wide range of maritime and land-based applications.
