SANY and OCHA Partner on Humanitarian Disaster Response

By MGN EditorialMarch 19, 2026 at 12:12 PM

Heavy equipment manufacturer SANY and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have signed a partnership agreement to collaborate on disaster relief efforts.

In a significant development for the maritime and heavy industries, SANY Foundation and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize a cooperation framework. The agreement, signed during the 2026 Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Week (HNPW), will see the two organizations work together on a range of humanitarian disaster response initiatives. SANY, a leading global manufacturer of construction and heavy equipment, will provide its expertise and resources to support OCHA's mission of coordinating international emergency relief efforts. "This partnership represents an important step forward in leveraging private sector capabilities to enhance humanitarian response," said Martin Griffiths, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator. "SANY's equipment and logistical support will be invaluable as we work to deliver aid and assistance to communities affected by natural disasters and other crises." Under the terms of the MoU, SANY will contribute equipment, personnel, and technical know-how to OCHA's disaster response operations. This could include deploying heavy machinery like excavators, cranes, and trucks to clear debris, rebuild infrastructure, and transport relief supplies. SANY will also work with OCHA to develop training programs and best practices for the use of technology and equipment in humanitarian settings. "As a global corporate citizen, SANY is proud to partner with OCHA to support their vital work in saving lives and restoring communities," said Xiang Wenbo, President of SANY Group. "Our robust equipment and logistics capabilities can make a real difference when disaster strikes, and we look forward to putting them in service of the greater good." The SANY-OCHA partnership is the latest example of the private sector's growing involvement in humanitarian relief efforts. By leveraging their specialized expertise and resources, companies can play a crucial role in enhancing the speed, scale, and effectiveness of disaster response operations. This collaboration sets a precedent that industry leaders hope will inspire further private-public cooperation in this critical domain.
