Sasol, the South African energy and chemical company, has released its operating and financial results for the six months ended 31 December 2025 (H1 FY26). According to the company's press release, Sasol reported a turnover of R122.4 billion, which remained flat compared to the prior period, despite a 3% increase in sales volumes. The company attributed the steady performance to 'challenging market conditions', including ongoing global supply chain disruptions and volatility in commodity prices. Sasol's Energy Business saw a 5% increase in sales volumes, driven by higher demand for liquid fuels, while the Chemicals Business reported a 1% decline in sales volumes due to weaker demand in certain product lines. 'While we faced a number of headwinds in the first half of the financial year, we remained focused on operational excellence and cost discipline to deliver a resilient performance,' said Fleetwood Grobler, Sasol's President and Chief Executive Officer. 'Looking ahead, we are cautiously optimistic about the market outlook, but we remain vigilant and are prepared to adapt our strategy as needed to navigate the evolving landscape.' The company also provided an updated business outlook, highlighting its efforts to enhance its sustainability and decarbonization initiatives, as well as its plans to optimize its portfolio and capital allocation to drive long-term value creation. This report from Sasol provides a snapshot of the challenges and opportunities facing the energy and chemicals sector in the current global economic environment. As a major player in the maritime industry's supply chain, Sasol's performance and strategic priorities will be closely watched by industry stakeholders seeking to understand broader market trends and dynamics.
