Seadrill's Angolan Drillship Scores More Work

Seadrill's joint venture with Sonangol has secured additional work for an ultra-deepwater drillship in Angola, extending the rig's current assignment in the region.

In the latest development from Angola's offshore energy sector, Sonadrill - a 50:50 joint venture between an affiliate of Sonangol E.P. and offshore drilling contractor Seadrill - has lined up more work for one of its ultra-deepwater drillships operating in Angolan waters. According to an announcement from Offshore Energy, Sonadrill has secured a multi-well job for the 2015-built drillship, enabling the rig to remain on its existing assignment in the African country. The contract extension will allow the drillship to continue contributing to Sonangol's offshore exploration and production activities. 'This additional work for our drillship in Angola is a testament to the strong operational performance of our joint venture and the continued demand for high-specification assets in the region,' said Simon Johnson, Seadrill's Chief Executive Officer. 'We are pleased to be supporting Sonangol's operations and look forward to building on this relationship.' The news comes as the global offshore energy market continues to show signs of recovery, with increased investment and activity in key regions like West Africa. Angola, in particular, has remained an important hub for offshore drilling, with national oil company Sonangol playing a central role in driving development. Seadrill's latest contract extension underscores the company's strategic positioning in this dynamic market.
