Shearwater Secures Further Contract with Shell-Equinor North Sea Joint Venture
By MGN Editorial•June 22, 2026 at 12:00 PM
Adura Operations, the incorporated joint venture between Shell and Equinor in the UK North Sea, has awarded Shearwater an additional contract, reinforcing the geophysical services firm's role in supporting the partnership's offshore operations.
## Shearwater Wins Further Work from Shell-Equinor North Sea JV
Shearwater GeoServices has secured an additional contract from Adura Operations, the incorporated joint venture (IJV) established between energy majors Shell and Equinor to manage their combined UK North Sea upstream assets, according to Offshore Energy.
The award represents a continued vote of confidence in Shearwater's capabilities as a provider of geophysical and seismic services to one of the North Sea's most significant operator partnerships. Adura Operations was formed to streamline the management of Shell and Equinor's overlapping UK continental shelf interests, pooling resources and operational expertise across a substantial portfolio of producing assets.
While full contract details were not disclosed, the repeat engagement underscores the ongoing demand for high-quality subsurface data acquisition and processing services as North Sea operators seek to maximise recovery from maturing fields and identify new development opportunities within existing licence areas.
Shearwater, which has established itself as a leading independent geophysical contractor in the European offshore sector, has been an active participant in North Sea survey campaigns in recent years. Repeat business from a major IJV such as Adura is indicative of the operational reliability and technical performance the company brings to complex offshore environments.
The North Sea continues to attract sustained investment in subsurface evaluation despite broader energy transition pressures, as operators balance obligations to existing production infrastructure with longer-term decarbonisation commitments. For Shell and Equinor, maintaining a detailed and current picture of reservoir conditions across their joint portfolio remains a commercial priority.
The contract award was reported by Offshore Energy. Further technical and commercial details are expected to be confirmed by the parties in due course.
