Shell Completes Divestiture of Na Kika Platform Interest in Gulf of America
By MGN Editorial•September 23, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Shell Offshore Inc. has finalised the sale of its 50% non-operated working interest in the Na Kika deepwater platform and associated fields in the Gulf of America, marking another step in the energy major's ongoing portfolio rationalisation strategy.
## Shell Exits Na Kika Platform in Gulf of America Asset Sale
Shell Offshore Inc., a subsidiary of Shell plc, has completed the sale of its 50% non-operated working interest in the Na Kika platform and its associated fields located in the Gulf of America, the company announced on 22 September 2026.
According to a PR Newswire release issued by Shell, the transaction also includes the divestiture of the company's 100% owned interest in the Coulomb field, which is tied back to the Na Kika infrastructure. The completion of the deal follows the earlier announcement of the agreement, with both parties having satisfied the necessary regulatory and closing conditions.
The Na Kika platform is a semi-submersible production facility operating in ultra-deepwater in the Gulf of America, one of the most technically demanding offshore environments in the world. The asset has been a significant production hub in the region, processing hydrocarbons from multiple subsea tiebacks across a broad deepwater acreage position.
The divestiture is consistent with Shell's broader strategy of high-grading its upstream portfolio, concentrating capital and operational focus on assets where it holds operatorship and can leverage its deepwater technical expertise most effectively. The energy major has been selectively exiting non-operated positions across various basins as part of a disciplined capital allocation approach.
The identity of the buyer and the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed in the announcement. Shell's Houston-based operations team has been central to managing its Gulf of America deepwater portfolio, which remains a core component of the company's Americas upstream business despite the latest divestiture.
For the broader Gulf of America offshore sector, the transaction reflects continued consolidation and asset repositioning among major operators as the industry balances long-term energy transition commitments with near-term production economics. Deepwater Gulf assets continue to attract buyer interest given their relatively low breakeven costs and established infrastructure networks.
