UK energy giant Shell has commenced multi-well drilling activities off the coast of Egypt using a drillship owned by offshore contractor Stena Drilling.

In a move to expand its upstream operations in the region, UK-headquartered energy major Shell has embarked on a multi-well drilling campaign off the coast of Egypt. The company is utilizing a drillship owned by Scotland-based offshore drilling contractor Stena Drilling for the project, according to a report from Offshore Energy. The drilling activities are taking place in Egyptian waters, though the specific location was not disclosed. Shell has a significant presence in Egypt's offshore oil and gas sector, with several existing production and exploration assets in the country. 'This latest drilling program demonstrates Shell's continued commitment to investing in Egypt's energy resources and contributing to the country's economic development,' said a Shell spokesperson quoted by Offshore Energy. Stena Drilling, the owner of the drillship being used, is a well-established player in the global offshore drilling market. The company has a fleet of modern, high-specification drilling units that are in demand by major energy firms for complex offshore projects. 'We are pleased to be supporting Shell's operations in Egypt through the deployment of one of our advanced drillships,' said a Stena Drilling representative. 'This project underscores the capabilities of our drilling fleet and our strong relationship with a key client.' The commencement of this new drilling campaign in Egypt comes as Shell and other international oil companies continue to focus on expanding their upstream footprint in the Eastern Mediterranean region, which has emerged as an attractive hydrocarbon province in recent years.
