SINBON and Swobbee Collaborate to Expand Battery Swapping in New York City

SINBON and Swobbee are partnering to deploy a citywide battery swapping network in New York City, aiming to reduce fire risks from e-bike charging and support cleaner last-mile mobility.
In a move to address fire safety concerns and promote sustainable transportation, SINBON and Swobbee have announced a collaboration to expand battery swapping infrastructure across New York City.
According to the press release, the two companies are 'advancing the deployment of a citywide battery swapping network' with the goal of 'reducing fire risks associated with e-bike charging while supporting cleaner and more reliable last-mile mobility.'
The partnership leverages SINBON's expertise in battery technology and Swobbee's experience in operating battery swapping stations. By establishing a network of swap stations, the initiative aims to provide a convenient and safe alternative to traditional e-bike charging, which has been linked to several fires in urban areas.
'Fires related to lithium-ion battery charging pose a serious risk, especially in dense cities like New York,' said a SINBON spokesperson. 'Our collaboration with Swobbee will help address this issue by giving e-bike riders a reliable and secure way to power their vehicles.'
In addition to enhancing safety, the battery swapping program is expected to support the city's sustainability goals by enabling more widespread adoption of electric last-mile delivery and micromobility solutions. Riders will be able to quickly swap depleted batteries for fresh ones, reducing downtime and encouraging the use of cleaner transportation modes.
'This partnership is an important step in building the infrastructure needed to accelerate the electrification of urban logistics and transportation,' said the Swobbee CEO. 'We're excited to work with SINBON to bring this innovative solution to New York City.'
The rollout of the battery swapping network is planned to begin in the coming months, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive citywide system to serve the growing e-bike and micromobility market. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to improve safety and sustainability in urban mobility, a key priority for many maritime hubs and logistics centers.
