China Harbour Engineering Company wins contract to design and build new barge terminal and container yard at Singapore's Tuas Port.
In a move to expand its port infrastructure, Singapore has awarded a major contract to China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) to design and build a new barge terminal and container yard at the upcoming Tuas Port.
According to Seatrade Maritime, CHEC will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the new facilities, which are part of the ongoing development of the Tuas Mega Port - Singapore's next-generation container terminal.
The Tuas Port project is a key strategic initiative for the city-state, as it seeks to consolidate its position as a leading global maritime hub. Once completed, the new port will have an annual capacity of up to 65 million TEUs, making it one of the largest container ports in the world.
'This contract award demonstrates Singapore's confidence in CHEC's capabilities to deliver world-class port infrastructure,' said a CHEC spokesperson. 'We are honored to contribute our expertise to this landmark project that will strengthen Singapore's maritime dominance in the region.'
The selection of the Chinese engineering firm also underscores the growing influence of Chinese companies in global port development. CHEC has been involved in numerous major port projects around the world, from the Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka to the Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates.
