Skylark Labs Deploys Autonomous Runway Monitoring at Major Airports
By MGN Editorial•March 23, 2026 at 11:47 PM
Skylark Labs has announced the deployment of its fixed foreign object debris detection system at major commercial airports, providing continuous runway safety monitoring.
Skylark Labs, an Indian technology company, has announced the deployment of its Fixed Foreign Object Debris (FOD) detection system at major commercial airports around the world. The system provides continuous, autonomous monitoring of airport runways to identify potential hazards without the operational constraints of traditional mobile vehicle patrols.
According to the press release, Skylark Labs' FOD detection system uses advanced computer vision and machine learning algorithms to continuously scan runways for foreign objects that could pose a risk to aircraft. The fixed sensors are installed along the runway and operate 24/7 to detect and alert airport authorities of any debris, enabling rapid response and removal.
'Foreign object debris on airport runways is a critical safety concern that can lead to significant damage and disruption,' said Skylark Labs CEO Arjun Mehta. 'Our autonomous monitoring solution gives airport operators the tools to proactively identify and mitigate these risks, improving overall runway safety and efficiency.'
The deployment of Skylark's technology comes as airports globally face increasing pressure to enhance safety and sustainability. Runway incursions and bird strikes remain major challenges, with the global aviation industry reporting over 13,000 such incidents in 2025 alone. Autonomous monitoring systems like Skylark's offer a promising solution to supplement traditional manual inspections.
'Skylark Labs' fixed FOD detection is an innovative approach that can significantly enhance runway safety and efficiency,' said Capt. John Smith, aviation safety expert and consultant. 'Continuous, real-time monitoring is a game-changer compared to periodic vehicle patrols, allowing airports to respond to issues faster and more effectively.'
Skylark Labs reports that its system is now deployed at several major international airports, with plans for further global expansion in the coming years. The company's technology has also been adopted by select military airfields seeking to bolster runway safety and security.
As the aviation industry continues to modernize operations, autonomous monitoring solutions like Skylark's FOD detection system are poised to play an increasingly important role in ensuring the safety and reliability of airport infrastructure worldwide.
