South Korean Shipyard Delivers MOL's Newbuild LPG Carrier Hired by TotalEnergies

Japanese shipping giant MOL takes delivery of a new LPG dual-fuel VLGC from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in South Korea.
In a significant development for the maritime industry, Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) has taken delivery of a newbuilding liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) dual-fuel very large gas carrier (VLGC) from Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in South Korea. The vessel has been chartered to French energy major TotalEnergies.
According to the report from Offshore Energy, the delivery of this state-of-the-art LPG carrier marks an important milestone for MOL as it continues to expand its fleet of eco-friendly vessels. The VLGC is equipped with dual-fuel capabilities, allowing it to run on both traditional marine fuels as well as cleaner-burning LPG, aligning with the industry's push towards more sustainable shipping operations.
'The delivery of this newbuilding VLGC is a testament to MOL's commitment to environmental stewardship and technological innovation,' said an MOL spokesperson. 'As the maritime sector navigates the transition to lower-emission fuels, vessels like this one will play a crucial role in helping us meet our sustainability goals.'
The new VLGC has been chartered to TotalEnergies, one of the world's largest LPG traders and a leader in the global energy transition. This partnership underscores the growing demand for eco-friendly LPG carriers to support the increasing use of liquefied petroleum gas as a marine fuel.
