Bureau Veritas celebrates the delivery of EON, the first fully electric harbor tug in Singapore and Southeast Asia, marking a major milestone for sustainable maritime operations in the region.

In a significant development for the maritime industry in Southeast Asia, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore (BV) has announced the delivery of EON, the first fully electric harbor tug in Singapore and the broader region. Built by PaxOcean and owned by Kuok Maritime Group (KMG) under the Coastal Sustainability Alliance (CSA), EON represents a major advancement in the adoption of zero-emission technologies in the maritime sector. According to the announcement, the all-electric tug 'will contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution in the port of Singapore.' 'The delivery of EON is an important milestone for the maritime industry in Singapore and the region,' said Matthieu de Tugny, President, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore. 'It demonstrates the industry's commitment to sustainability and the adoption of innovative technologies to reduce the environmental impact of maritime operations.' The project aligns with Singapore's broader efforts to transform its port into a sustainable, future-ready hub. As The Maritime Executive reports, the city-state has set ambitious goals to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, with the maritime sector playing a crucial role in this transition. The successful delivery of EON is expected to pave the way for more widespread adoption of electric and other alternative-fuel technologies in harbor operations across Southeast Asia. It represents a significant step forward in the industry's journey towards decarbonization and environmental stewardship.
