Subsea7 CEO Retirement and Leadership Transition
By MGN Editorial•March 4, 2026 at 09:35 PM
Subsea7 announces the retirement of CEO John Evans, with the head of Seaway7 set to take over the role.
In a significant leadership transition for the maritime industry, Subsea7 has announced that its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) John Evans will retire as of July 2023. Evans has served in the role since 2016 and will be succeeded by Stuart Fitzgerald, the current CEO of Subsea7's renewables business unit, Seaway7.
According to Subsea7, Evans' retirement comes after a distinguished 35-year career with the company. 'John has made an outstanding contribution to Subsea7 over many years and has led the company through a period of significant change and growth,' said Subsea7 Chairman, Kristian Siem.
Fitzgerald, who will take over as Subsea7's new CEO, has been with the company since 2002 and has held various senior leadership positions, including Chief Operating Officer. In his current role as CEO of Seaway7, he has overseen the integration of the renewables business into Subsea7's operations.
'I am delighted that Stuart Fitzgerald will succeed John as the new CEO of Subsea7,' Siem added. 'Stuart has a deep understanding of our business and a clear vision for the future. I am confident that under his leadership, Subsea7 will continue to deliver for our clients and create value for our shareholders.'
The leadership transition at Subsea7 comes at a critical time for the offshore energy industry, which is navigating the shift towards renewable energy sources while also maintaining a focus on traditional oil and gas projects. Fitzgerald's experience in the renewables sector is expected to be valuable as Subsea7 seeks to expand its presence in the growing offshore wind market.
According to gCaptain, the announcement of Evans' retirement and Fitzgerald's appointment 'underscores the importance of leadership continuity and strategic vision in the maritime industry, particularly as companies navigate the evolving energy landscape.'
