TDI-Brooks Secures Timor-Leste Offshore Survey Contract Ahead of TLNG Development
By MGN Editorial•October 1, 2026 at 06:00 AM
US-based offshore surveyor TDI-Brooks has been selected to conduct a geotechnical and environmental baseline survey offshore Timor-Leste in support of the planned TLNG liquefied natural gas project, with the programme scheduled for 2027.
## TDI-Brooks Adds Timor-Leste Survey to 2027 Schedule
US-based offshore survey specialist TDI-Brooks has been awarded a contract to execute a light geotechnical and environmental baseline survey programme in Timorese waters, the company has announced. The work will be carried out in partnership with Taka Hydrocore Indonesia and is scheduled for completion in 2027.
According to Splash247, the programme was awarded by Timor-Leste's Ministry of Petroleum and Minerals and is directly linked to the country's planned Timor LNG (TLNG) development — a project that has long been viewed as a cornerstone of the nation's economic future.
The survey scope encompasses both geotechnical investigation and environmental baseline data collection, work that is typically required in the early stages of offshore energy infrastructure planning to assess seabed conditions and establish pre-development environmental benchmarks. Such data is critical for informing engineering design, regulatory approvals, and environmental impact assessments for major offshore developments.
TDI-Brooks, headquartered in College Station, Texas, is a well-established name in offshore geoscience services, with a track record spanning deepwater and shallow-water survey programmes across multiple international basins. The partnership with Taka Hydrocore Indonesia reflects a common industry approach of pairing international technical expertise with regional operational knowledge and local content compliance.
The TLNG project has been a long-anticipated development for Timor-Leste, a nation heavily dependent on petroleum revenues. Progress on the project carries significant implications not only for the country's energy sector but also for its broader economic development ambitions. The commissioning of pre-FEED survey work signals a meaningful step forward in the project's advancement toward a potential final investment decision.
The addition of the Timor-Leste programme to TDI-Brooks' 2027 schedule underscores continued demand for specialist offshore survey services across the Asia-Pacific region, where several LNG and upstream development projects remain in various stages of planning and execution.
