TGS Expands West Africa Presence with New 3D Survey in Nigeria

Oslo-listed seismic data firm TGS partners with Nigerian regulators on a new 3D offshore survey in the Niger Delta region.

Oslo-listed seismic data specialist TGS has announced plans to undertake a new multi-client 3D survey in offshore Nigeria. The 'Nigeria Laide' survey will be conducted in partnership with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and SeaSeis Geophysical. According to TGS, the survey area lies within the Outer Fold & Thrust Belt of the eastern Niger Delta, 'one of Nigeria's most prolific hydrocarbon provinces.' The project aims to 'enhance the understanding of the petroleum system and support future exploration and development activities' in the region. 'This new survey demonstrates TGS' continued commitment to the West African market and our strategy of working closely with national oil companies and regulators to unlock the full potential of the region's hydrocarbon resources,' said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS. The announcement comes as TGS continues to expand its footprint across West Africa. In 2021, the company acquired fellow seismic firm PGS' multi-client library in the region, solidifying its position as a leading provider of geophysical data and analytics. The Nigeria Laide survey is expected to commence acquisition in Q4 2022, with final data available in Q4 2023, according to TGS. The project will utilize the company's fleet of seismic vessels and advanced imaging technologies to deliver high-quality 3D data to support exploration and development activities offshore Nigeria.
