ThayerMahan Launches Non-Kinetic UUV Defeat System for Port Security
By MGN Editorial•March 20, 2026 at 08:44 PM
ThayerMahan has unveiled a new mission-ready non-kinetic system to defend ports and maritime infrastructure against unmanned underwater vehicle threats.
ThayerMahan, a leader in unmanned maritime security solutions, has announced the launch of its new SeaGuard™ system - a non-kinetic defeat system designed to protect high-value ports and maritime infrastructure from unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) threats.
According to the company's press release, SeaGuard™ is an 'operationally validated' system that can detect, track, and neutralize UUVs without the use of lethal force. The system leverages advanced acoustic and sensor technologies to identify and disrupt the operation of unauthorized UUVs in sensitive maritime environments.
'Ports and other critical maritime assets face an increasing threat from the proliferation of small, low-cost UUVs that can be used for surveillance, disruption, or even attacks,' said Michael Connor, CEO of ThayerMahan. 'SeaGuard™ provides a mission-ready solution to detect and defeat these threats, helping to safeguard the flow of global trade and protect our nation's strategic interests.'
The launch of SeaGuard™ comes as maritime security experts warn of the growing risk posed by UUVs to ports, energy infrastructure, and other high-value maritime assets. Unmanned systems have become increasingly accessible and can be used for a range of nefarious purposes, from espionage to sabotage. Non-kinetic defeat systems like SeaGuard™ offer a way to mitigate these threats without the risks associated with traditional kinetic countermeasures.
ThayerMahan states that SeaGuard™ has been 'operationally validated' through testing and demonstrations, though further details on its capabilities and performance were not provided. The company positions the system as a key component in the defense of ports and other critical maritime infrastructure against evolving UUV threats.
