Michael Baker International's Peter Quintanilla has been appointed to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Council.

In a move aimed at enhancing the aesthetic value of the nation's transportation systems, the U.S. Department of Transportation has appointed Peter Quintanilla, Vice President and Design Hub Lead at Michael Baker International, to its Beautifying Transportation Infrastructure Council. Quintanilla, an industry veteran with extensive experience in maritime and infrastructure design, will advise the Transportation Secretary on ways to improve the visual appeal of highways, bridges, transit hubs and other transportation assets across the country. 'Enhancing the aesthetic qualities of our transportation infrastructure is crucial for creating welcoming, livable communities,' said Quintanilla. 'I'm honored to serve on this important council and look forward to working with the DOT to develop innovative design solutions that marry functionality with beauty.' The council was established earlier this year to provide recommendations on integrating public art, landscaping, and other visual elements into transportation projects. Its work is expected to play a key role in the Biden administration's broader efforts to upgrade the nation's aging infrastructure. In a separate announcement, Mississippi Power has named Fredie Carmichael as its new Vice President of Customer Solutions and Corporate Communications. Carmichael, a Meridian native, will oversee the utility's customer service, marketing, and external affairs functions.
