US LNG Giant Expands Newbuild Vessel Charters

Cheniere Energy exercises options to charter additional LNG vessels from Ocean Yield and NYK, signaling growing demand for US LNG exports.
Cheniere Marketing International, a wholly owned subsidiary of the U.S. energy player Cheniere Energy, has exercised options to charter more newbuild LNG vessels from Ocean Yield and NYK, according to an announcement from Offshore Energy.
The move comes as the U.S. continues to ramp up its LNG export capacity to meet growing global demand, particularly in Europe as the continent seeks to reduce its reliance on Russian gas. Cheniere is one of the largest LNG exporters in the U.S., operating the Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi liquefaction facilities along the Gulf Coast.
Under the agreements, Cheniere will charter two additional LNG carriers from Ocean Yield and one more from NYK. The vessels are currently under construction and will be delivered between 2026-2027. This expands on previous charter deals Cheniere has made with the two shipowners.
'This is an important milestone for Cheniere as we continue to secure the necessary shipping capacity to support the long-term growth of our LNG export business,' said Anatol Feygin, Cheniere's Chief Commercial Officer, in the announcement.
The new charters underscore the bullish outlook for U.S. LNG exports, which have surged in recent years thanks to the shale gas revolution. As European countries race to find alternatives to Russian gas, U.S. LNG has emerged as a critical supply source. This is driving increased investment in export infrastructure and shipping capacity to transport the fuel around the world.
