Velocys Achieves 30% Cost Reduction for microFTL Technology

Velocys announces manufacturing and delivery efficiencies that reduce total investment cost for its microFTL technology by over 30%.
Velocys, a leading provider of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) technology, has announced significant cost reductions for its microFTL™ technology. According to a press release, the company has implemented manufacturing and delivery efficiencies that lower the total investment cost by more than 30%.
The cost savings were confirmed during the design and engineering phase of two flagship FT SAF projects that Velocys is currently advancing. 'These efficiencies are a major milestone in our efforts to drive down the cost of deploying our technology and accelerate the adoption of sustainable aviation fuels,' said Henrik Wareborn, CEO of Velocys.
The microFTL technology is a modular, small-scale Fischer-Tropsch solution that converts waste biomass or residues into drop-in sustainable aviation fuel. By reducing the upfront investment required, Velocys aims to make the technology more accessible and attractive to a wider range of project developers.
'The 30% cost reduction is a significant achievement that will help advance the commercialization of sustainable aviation fuels,' said the editor of gCaptain, a leading maritime industry news source. 'As the shipping and aviation sectors work to decarbonize, cost-effective technologies like microFTL will be crucial.'
Velocys is currently involved in two major FT SAF projects - one in the United States and one in the UK. The company's technology is seen as a key enabler for these types of waste-to-fuel facilities, which can produce SAF from a variety of sustainable feedstocks.
