Vessev Enters U.S. Market With $19M Series A, Secures First American Customer for Electric Hydrofoil Technology

New Zealand-based marine technology company Vessev has announced a U.S. market entry backed by a $19 million Series A funding round, naming FlyTahoe as its first American customer and launching a multi-city showcase tour.

New Zealand-based deep tech marine company Vessev is making a significant push into the United States market, announcing a $19 million Series A funding round alongside its first U.S. customer and a multi-city demonstration tour, according to a company press release issued August 20, 2026. Backed by prominent venture capital firm Blackbird VC, Vessev has named FlyTahoe as its inaugural U.S. customer, signalling commercial traction for the company's electric hydrofoil vessel technology beyond its home market. The partnership with FlyTahoe — a Lake Tahoe-based operator — positions Vessev's technology within the growing U.S. recreational and passenger ferry sector, where demand for zero-emission watercraft is accelerating. To mark the expansion, Vessev has launched a multi-city U.S. showcase, with planned appearances in New York City, Washington D.C.'s historic Navy Yard, and Lake Tahoe. The tour is designed to introduce the company's vessels to prospective customers, investors, and maritime stakeholders across key coastal and inland waterway markets. 'This U.S. entry represents a major milestone for Vessev,' the company stated, highlighting the strategic importance of the American market for scaling its electric hydrofoil platform. The $19 million Series A is expected to fund U.S. market development, manufacturing partnerships, and continued technology refinement. The announcement reflects broader momentum in the electric and hybrid marine propulsion sector, where investors and operators are increasingly seeking commercially viable alternatives to conventional fossil-fuel-powered vessels. Hydrofoil technology, which lifts hulls clear of the water to dramatically reduce drag and energy consumption, has attracted growing interest from ferry operators, tourism companies, and defence-adjacent maritime users. Vessev's entry into the U.S. comes at a time when several American port cities and waterway operators are under pressure to decarbonise passenger and short-sea transport operations, creating a receptive environment for proven electric vessel technology from international developers. The multi-city showcase, culminating at Lake Tahoe alongside the FlyTahoe customer announcement, is expected to generate additional commercial leads as Vessev seeks to build a U.S. order book following its Series A close.
