Technology group Wärtsilä is investing €140 million to expand its production capacity by 35% at its Sustainable Technology Hub in Vaasa, Finland, in response to growing global demand in the energy and marine sectors.

In a move to bolster its manufacturing capabilities, technology group Wärtsilä has announced plans to invest approximately €140 million to expand its production capacity by 35% at its Sustainable Technology Hub (STH) in Vaasa, Finland. According to the company, this expansion will increase Wärtsilä's industrial capacity and strengthen its global supply chain to better meet the growing demand for its products and solutions in the energy and marine industries worldwide. 'This investment is a clear indication of our commitment to supporting our customers and the markets we serve,' said Håkan Agnevall, President and CEO of Wärtsilä. 'It will enable us to enhance our production capabilities and deliver high-quality, innovative technologies that are essential for the energy transition and the decarbonization of the maritime industry.' The expansion project at the Vaasa facility, which serves as Wärtsilä's global technology center, is expected to be completed by the end of 2024. The upgrades will focus on increasing production capacity for the company's latest engine and propulsion technologies, as well as its growing portfolio of energy storage systems and digital solutions. This news comes as the maritime and energy sectors continue to face supply chain challenges and increased global demand, underscoring the importance of manufacturers like Wärtsilä bolstering their production capabilities to support the industry's transition to more sustainable operations.
