About
The European Maritime Pilots’ Association (EMPA) is a non-profit organisation which represents the interests of European pilots. It aims to improve operational and other aspects of the professional lives of marine pilots, and has produced the “Status of Pilots” which is available on the site allowing pilots to observe how pilotage services are organised in other member-countries. The site gives details of member associations and related associations, with links to their sites where available, in addition to: the EMPA charter on pilotage, September 1996; links to related sites; speeches delivered at seminars and workshops; details of EMPA events; a report from the 1999 general meeting; news, including events, incidents and operations; safety campaign, 1998 available in word format; and details of the Association’s Deepsea sub-committee. Conference papers available on the site include: lessons to be learnt from past maritime accidents, seminar in Oslo, 1998; future prospectives for European sea ports, delivered at the conference on the Green Paper and Maritime Infrastructure, Barcelona, May 1998; and the Sea Empress incident, presented at the Haugesund Conference in Norway, February 1997.
