The Marine Society provides a range of services in support of professional seafarers past, present and future. These include the College of the Sea; Seafarers Libraries; financial support; competitions; a quarterly magazine The Seafarer; and sea training in its own power-driven vessel. Full details of all its services are set out in a clear and easily navigated website which is updated every day, including at weekends and holidays. The website also carries particulars of a unique project called ‘webships’. These are vessels which are followed through the site by means of regular email despatches from the ships. Companies participating in this freely accessible project include the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, P&O Nedlloyd, and The Maersk Company. The Marine Society website is part of the UK National Grid for Learning.
