The AVECS Corporation AG is a software company developing quality & safety management software for the marine industry in accordance with ISO 9001. The company was founded in 1994 as a two-man company based in Potsdam. The ever-increasing rate of accidents at sea and falling safety standards gave Captain Hans-Werner Schleiter the idea to try and change this situation by developing specialised safety software. The concept was based on the then new international legislation (ISM - International Safety Management Code), introduced to improve safety onboard ships worldwide. During the development of the system, experts from maritime industry, nautical universities and software ergonomics were involved. Test installations onboard ensured that the functionality required by users was available in a user-friendly interface. The AVECS Corporation currently employs around 50 people, some of whom with extensive seagoing experience.

Airchime Manufacturing Co. Ltd., has been developing, manufacturing, and marketing acoustic signaling products since 1929. Airchime is a world class supplier of sound signaling products to various industrial sectors, including ship and boat building, railway/locomotive, and municipal emergency evacuation. Airchime was founded in 1929, at Vancouver, British Columbia, as a proprietorship with its principal emphasis being the manufacture of steam whistles for locomotives, ships, and factories. In 1948, the founder of the company invented and patented the first air horns which faithfully duplicated the sound of traditional steam locomotive whistles. This was necessitated due to the advent of the diesel locomotive. Airchime was incorporated in 1954. The company’s head office is located at Langley, British Columbia, Canada. The company owns and operates out of a 12,250 sq. ft facility constructed in 1996. Airchime products are also manufactured by licensees in the United States of America and Great Britain. The Airchime facility includes one of the largest anechoic test facilities in the world and employs state-of-the-art acoustical test equipment and instrumentation. Airchime is one of only a few companies in the world capable of original research and development of acoustic signaling products. Airchime manufactures over 150 different models of air, electric, and steam operated horns and whistles. In addition, the company has a complete line of accessory and control equipment available. Innovative product development and technology can be seen in Airchime’s Model KMJ/KM Series with such features as a self-draining design, low psi requirements resulting in energy efficiency, and cast in lightweight marine grade aluminum that provides excellent corrosion resistance. These KMJ Whistles are suitable for small workboat and commercial vessels under 75 meters (246 ft in length). The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is one of the world's leading ship classification societies. It is a not-for-profit, independent technical organization, which provides a unique service without counterpart in any other field of industry or commerce. Briefly stated, ABS establishes and administers standards, known as Rules, for the design, construction, and periodic survey of hsips and other marine structure. Classification is process which certifies adherence to these Rules, thus representing that a ship or other type of marien structure possesses the structural and mechanical integrity required for its intended service. A classed vessel is, therefore, one that provides for both the safety of personnel and cargoes carried, as well as helps to protect the enviornment in which it may operate. Because of the way it is organized and operated, ABS maintains an impartial and uncompromised postion in performing classification services around the world. In this way, ABS effectively acts as a self-regulatory agency to the international marine community, both private and public, in promoting the safety of life, property, and protecting the environment. In support of its classification and related services, ABS offers a broad range of technical services to assist owners, operators, shipyards and others in designing, building, operating and maintaining their vessels safety and effectively. Additionally an affiliate of ABS, ABS Group, provides inspection, certification, verification, assessment, quality assurance, and consultation services to the marine and non-marine industries worldwide.
