Argent LNG Secures Supply Agreement with Türkiye's BOTAŞ in Transatlantic Energy Deal

By MGN EditorialMay 18, 2026 at 04:27 PM

U.S. LNG export developer Argent LNG has signed a supply agreement with Turkish state gas company BOTAŞ, marking a significant step in diversifying Türkiye's energy portfolio with American liquefied natural gas.

## Argent LNG and BOTAŞ Sign US LNG Supply Deal Argent LNG, a Louisiana-headquartered liquefied natural gas export developer, has entered into a formal supply agreement with Boru Hatları ile Petrol Taşıma A.Ş. (BOTAŞ), Türkiye's state-owned natural gas company, according to Offshore Energy. The deal represents a notable development in transatlantic energy trade, positioning Argent LNG — still in the development phase — as a prospective supplier to one of Europe's most strategically significant energy markets. Türkiye has in recent years actively pursued a diversified gas import strategy, reducing dependence on any single supplier corridor and expanding its role as a regional energy hub. ### Strategic Significance BOTAŞ manages Türkiye's national natural gas transmission infrastructure and is the country's primary importer of pipeline and LNG supplies. A long-term offtake arrangement with a U.S. developer aligns with Ankara's broader ambition to balance its energy sourcing between Russian pipeline gas, Azerbaijani supplies via the Trans-Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP), and seaborne LNG from Atlantic Basin producers. For Argent LNG, securing a deal with a sovereign energy buyer of BOTAŞ's scale adds commercial credibility to its export project and may support the developer's efforts to reach a final investment decision (FID). U.S. LNG project developers typically require a portfolio of long-term offtake agreements before committing to the capital-intensive construction phase. ### US LNG Export Expansion The agreement reflects the continued global appetite for U.S. LNG, particularly among European and near-European buyers seeking supply security following the disruption of Russian gas flows since 2022. American LNG exports have surged in recent years, with the U.S. now among the world's top LNG exporters. Argent LNG's Louisiana base places it within the established Gulf Coast LNG export corridor, alongside major facilities such as Sabine Pass and Calcasieu Pass, giving the project access to deep-water shipping lanes and established maritime LNG logistics infrastructure. Full commercial terms of the BOTAŞ agreement have not been disclosed. Industry observers will be watching for further offtake announcements from Argent LNG as the project advances toward a potential FID. *Source: Offshore Energy*
