Technip Energies Secures EPCIC Contract for Coral Norte FLNG Project Offshore Mozambique
By MGN Editorial•June 8, 2026 at 12:00 PM
Technip Energies has been awarded a major EPCIC contract for the Coral Norte floating LNG project in Mozambique, partnering with JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries in a significant win for the offshore energy sector.
## Technip Energies Wins Major Role on Mozambique Coral Norte FLNG Project
French engineering and technology company Technip Energies has secured a significant engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract for the Coral Norte floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) project offshore Mozambique, according to Splash247.
The contract was awarded by the Eni-led Mozambique Rovuma Venture and will be executed in partnership with Japanese engineering firm JGC and South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries — a consortium that brings together some of the most experienced names in offshore LNG development.
### A Landmark Project for East African Energy
The Coral Norte FLNG project represents a continuation of Mozambique's emergence as a major deepwater gas province. The project follows the operational success of the Coral Sul FLNG vessel — the first FLNG unit deployed in African waters — which achieved first LNG production in 2022. Coral Norte is expected to further unlock the vast natural gas reserves of the Rovuma Basin in northern Mozambique.
For Technip Energies, the award reinforces its position as a leading contractor in the global FLNG market, a technically demanding segment that requires deep expertise in both offshore engineering and liquefaction technology. The company has been involved in several landmark FLNG projects worldwide, and this latest contract cements its standing in the East African energy corridor.
### Consortium Strength
The partnership with JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries mirrors the structure used on the Coral Sul project, suggesting the Rovuma Venture is drawing on a proven delivery model. Samsung Heavy Industries, which constructed the Coral Sul hull and topsides, brings critical fabrication capacity, while JGC contributes extensive LNG process engineering expertise.
The scale of the award is described by Splash247 as placing Technip Energies in a strong competitive position for future FLNG opportunities globally, underlining the strategic importance of the contract beyond the immediate project scope.
### Market Significance
Mozambique's Rovuma Basin holds some of the largest offshore gas discoveries made globally in the past two decades. While onshore LNG developments in the region have faced security-related delays, the FLNG model has proven a viable pathway to monetising these reserves, insulating production infrastructure from onshore risks.
The Coral Norte FLNG award signals continued investor confidence in the offshore development model and is expected to generate substantial supply chain activity across engineering, fabrication, and marine installation sectors.
