Mormugao Port Mormugao port, located on the West Coast of India at the mouth of river 'Zuari' is an open type natural harbour port protected by a breakwater and mole. The port, which is almost 370 Km South of Mumbai and 575 Km North of Kochi, is established as the premier iron ore exporting port of the country and serves to a limited hinterland spread over the states of Goa, Karnataka and Maharashtra to parts of Madhya Pradesh. The Port of Mormugao, active for more than a century, was developed primarily during the Portuguese period. The port was declared as a Major Port on 1963 after the liberalisation of Goa. Future plan With the advent of recent trend of corporatisation of the Major Ports, Mormugao Port has also planned to become a corporate entity and accordingly undertook preliminary steps. As per Cornell Group's suggestion, Ministry of Surface Transport has appointed Infrastructure Development Finance Company and SBI Capital Markets for valuating the assets of Mormugao Port as a first step towards corporatisation. With the under-going diversification in cargo traffic from single commodity iron ore to diversified commodity, Mormugao port is expected to handle 47 million tonnes of cargo by 2020, of which iron ore's share would rest at around 27 million tonnes.

REPRESENTATION The New Zealand Shipping Federation is a Full Member of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), the international organisation of national shipowner association. The ICS is widely regarded as the principal voice of the shipping industry and has significant influence with the International Maritime Organisation. The Federation is also a Full Member of the International Shipping Federation (ISF), the international employers organisation for shipowners. The Intentional Labour Organisation (ILO) has specific sessions, every 8-10 years, devoted solely to Maritime matters. The New Zealand employers delegate to these sessions is normally the person nominated by the New Zealand Shipping Federation in conjunction with the Business New Zealand. New Zealand shipping interests are represented by the Federation on Government Committees such as the Ballast Water Advisory Group, the Oil Pollution Advisory Committee and the ad hoc committee set up to deal with various issues relating to the importation of pests. The Maritime New Zealand's Consultative Committee includes a member' of the Maritime Industry. Competenz is the industry training organisation for the maritime sector, and the Federation is a member of the maritime advisory group LOBBYING and ADVOCACY The preparation and presentation of submissions putting forward the shipping industry's perspective on a wide range of issues is a key part of the Federation’s work. This is targeted not only at Government, Select Committees and Ministers but also coalition and Opposition parties, Ministries, Government Departments and Agencies, Port Companies, Regional and District Councils, and other organisations. Submissions are made not only in response to proposals, but also proactively seeking changes and improvements, The Federation regularly appears before Select Committees. The Federation has a special relationship with the Australian Shipowners Association, particularly in relation to international matters. This relationship is increasingly relevant as issues relating to Trans Tasman trade arise on both sides of the Tasman. INFORMATION The Federation disseminates information to members from international organisations such as IMO, ISF, ICS and ILO. First utilized by colonial commerce, it has progressed to its current status as the premier bulk and speciality cargo facility serving the northeastern region of the Untied States. Located at the top of the Naragansett Bay and on the Providence River, ProvPort offers vessels six deep water berths that exceed the depths associated with other northeastern ports. In addition, ProvPort has over 300,000 square feet of warehouse space, generous outside storage areas, railroad access to all major, national lines, heavy lifting capacity, and a productive and flexible work force. ProvPort's occupies over 105 acres immediately adjacent to its berths. Some of the area is leased to major international and local corporations, including: Univar USA is a packager and distributor for specialty chemicals utilized by manufacturers and water agencies throughout New England. Univar's administrative headquarters, processing plant and distribution facility are located within and adjacent to ProvPort. TEPPCO is a subsidiary unit of Duke Energy. Their ProvPort facility stands as the major distribution terminal for propane throughout TEPPCO's New England market. Glens Falls/Lehigh Cement recently invested in excess of $15 million to create its New England distribution center. The new dome structure can hold in excess of 35,000 tons of cement that can then be distributed via truck and rail its customer in the region. Metals Recycling has been an active tenant of the port since the mid-1980's. Its facility receives various grades of scrap metal for export by both barge and vessel. Metals' is jointly owned by local interests along with the Hugo Neu Corporation and Snitzer Steel, both nationally recognized scrap metal processors. Morton Salt recently signed a long-term lease with ProvPort. This action establishes ProvPort as its major distribution point for road salt. Morton Salt is the major supplier of road salt to governmental jurisdictions and private entities in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
