Airchime Manufacturing Co. Ltd., has been developing, manufacturing, and marketing acoustic signaling products since 1929. Airchime is a world class supplier of sound signaling products to various industrial sectors, including ship and boat building, railway/locomotive, and municipal emergency evacuation. Airchime was founded in 1929, at Vancouver, British Columbia, as a proprietorship with its principal emphasis being the manufacture of steam whistles for locomotives, ships, and factories. In 1948, the founder of the company invented and patented the first air horns which faithfully duplicated the sound of traditional steam locomotive whistles. This was necessitated due to the advent of the diesel locomotive. Airchime was incorporated in 1954. The company’s head office is located at Langley, British Columbia, Canada. The company owns and operates out of a 12,250 sq. ft facility constructed in 1996. Airchime products are also manufactured by licensees in the United States of America and Great Britain. The Airchime facility includes one of the largest anechoic test facilities in the world and employs state-of-the-art acoustical test equipment and instrumentation. Airchime is one of only a few companies in the world capable of original research and development of acoustic signaling products. Airchime manufactures over 150 different models of air, electric, and steam operated horns and whistles. In addition, the company has a complete line of accessory and control equipment available. Innovative product development and technology can be seen in Airchime’s Model KMJ/KM Series with such features as a self-draining design, low psi requirements resulting in energy efficiency, and cast in lightweight marine grade aluminum that provides excellent corrosion resistance. These KMJ Whistles are suitable for small workboat and commercial vessels under 75 meters (246 ft in length). The KMJ-SC self-contained units are ideal for the new fast ferry designs, casino boats, workboats and small patrol craft where an air supply is not available or desired.

Welcome to SKULD Assuranceforeningen Skuld provides Protection & Indemnity (P&I) insurance to shipowners and charterers all over the world. Its purpose is to "offer mutual insurance against third-party liabilities and losses incurred in direct connection with the operation of the entered vessels." The Club also offers Freight, Demurrage and Defence (FDD) cover to its members. Established in 1897 in Oslo, Norway, some 50 % of the tonnage entered in the Association is still Scandinavian-controlled, reflecting the club’s traditional balance between Scandinavian and non-Scandinavian business. Its other important markets are most Western European countries, Russia, Singapore, China incl. Hong Kong and USA. With its established and strong position in "mature" markets such as Norway and Denmark, the largest growth potential is currently in Greece and Asia. In addition to its head office in Oslo, Skuld has offices in Copenhagen, Bergen, Piraeus and Hong Kong. World-wide, the organisation has a staff of some 135 members, all employed directly by the Association. The Club can also draw on an extensive network of correspondents - such as the New York-based Anchor Marine, established in 1998 as an exclusive correspondent for Skuld, which assists the Club in the large number of US-related matters. As a mutual association, the Club is owned and controlled directly by its members. The President & CEO reports to the Board of Directors. The Rules of the Association specifies the division of powers between the President & CEO, the Board of Directors, the Committee and the Annual General Meeting. In 2000, Skuld was reorganised through the establishment of a total of nine syndicates, each with an overall responsibility for one or more geographical markets. A separate energy syndicate, based in Oslo and in charge of global operations in the energy field, was also established. Skuld is one of thirteen members of the International Group of P&I Clubs which work closely together in reinsurance and other matters of common interest. In August 2001, Skuld entered into a strategic partnership with Royal & SunAlliance which i.a. has an extensive, world-wide portfolio in Hull & Machinery insurance. Initially, the two partners will offer a joint one policy fixed premium cover for vessels up to 3000 GT, and seek to co-ordinate the activities of their technical departments. Other areas of co-operation are likely to follow suit.

Background The British Shippers' Council is a strategic policy making arm of FTA. Its members comprise industry representatives from a cross section of businesses who require international freight transport, logistics, distribution and shipping services. The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is a leading UK trade association and serves industry as users of transport & distribution services by all modes. FTA's 11,500 member companies represent all sectors of UK industry and consign 70% of UK visible exports, 90% of all freight moved by rail and also operate nearly half of the UK fleet of commercial vehicles. Our Strength At the heart of FTA is its unrivalled knowledge of transport and distribution, shared between 360 staff operating out of five UK offices and Brussels. This knowledge resource is delivered through local, national and European representation together with a comprehensive range of commercial services. Our Objectives FTA's membership is a broad church of mostly freight service providers (primarily road freight) and users of freight services (i.e. shippers). The British Shippers' Council has traditionally focussed most of its attention and activities on the maritime and air freight services and on trade facilitation through customs and documentation. Policies are made which aim to provide the right conditions in which industry is able to take advantage of a wide range of competitive and efficient services. Such services would enable them to enhance rather than hinder their global supply chains and promote the competitiveness of their products in overseas markets. FTA's Rail Freight Council is a forum of both users and operators and UK track infrastructure owners - all of whom are FTA members. This Council is FTA's principal strategic policy making body for matters to do with rail freight, both domestic and European. The Port of Chennai, located on the North-East tip of the state of Tamil Nadu, is an artificial harbour on the Coromandel coast of Southern India. The port serves to a well-developed hinterland extended over the Southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The port was conceived long back in 1875 with the construction of harbours. During the period of Second World War between 1939-45, the port felt acute congestion due to high influx of materials. This had driven the need for capacity enhancement of the port to cater to the increasing levels of cargo movement. The Government initiated a decisive approach towards capacity expansion of the port. Jawahar Dock was then commissioned in 1964 with the financial assistance of World Bank. An outer harbour was commissioned in 1971 as a part of the ports continuous development. The new member of the Chennai Port family was christened as Bharati Dock. During the post-independence era, the port of Chennai has evolved as one of the major container handling ports of the country conforming to all international standards. The port of Chennai is fast emerging as a preferred destination for export of non-traditional cargo like cars and industrial boilers. Future plan The port has created 10,000 sq. metres of concreted yard for parking of cars and is looking forward to become a specialised car exporting port of the country.

MISSION: To deliver a reliable, efficient and cost-effective network of Aids to Navigation for the benefit and safety of all Mariners. The Northern Lighthouse Board's principal concern is with safety: the safety of the mariner at sea; the safety of our own people employed in or around some of the world's most dangerous coastlines; and the safety of environment in which we, and those who come after us, must live and work. The Northern Lighthouse Board has long been at the forefront of navigational technology. The programme to automate all major lighthouses was successfully completed on 31 March 1998. The Board completed the conversion of all its statutory lit buoyage to solar power in 1997. Thereafter, an ongoing programme of modernisation and overhaul will continue well into the 21st Century. The Board has always prided itself on its efficiency and cost effectiveness. For the future, it aims to provide a reliable, low-maintenance and cost-effective network of Aids to Navigation, backed by a safe, efficient and professional support organisation. The joint General Lighthouse Authorities' policy is based on the continuing requirement for the foreseeable future for a base-level of traditional visual aids to navigation, in the form of lights, beacons and buoyage, but a decreasing reliance of these "traditional" aids to navigation and an increasing reliance on high-precision radio aids. The Joint GLAs' policy also provides a mechanism for the ongoing review of tasking and policies.
